DJ.clj: Composable Thinking

Good design starts by breaking things into parts you can actually listen to. During this session, I’ll begin by sharing my perspective as a curious, data-oriented, functionally inclined software engineer learning how to DJ and produce music using industry-standard tools. Those experiences become a lens to explore critical thinking as a compositional practice.

Functional Programming

We’ll discuss theory, define terms and I’ll show specific problem-solving methods and design techniques I’ve learned while working directly on both the Clojure and Datomic teams: truth seeking, iterating for clarity, relentless inquiry, reflective practice, observing symptoms, defining terms, formulating hypothesis, creating good problem statements and deliberately deciding what belongs in scope.

This session is for people who enjoy critical thinking, music geeks, data nerds and senior engineers and architects who care about correctness, clarity, and treating problem solving as a craft.
